By These Holy Mysteries (Offertory)
There are two versions of this prayer.
The longer version appears to be older, but the short version
is the one most commonly used in Mexico today.
By These Holy Mysteries, short version
By these holy Mysteries which we have recalled, we ask you, O
Mary, for an increase in the holy faith, the triumph of the Church,
wise counsel for the Pope, unity in rhe Mexican nation [or our
nation] and good government; that the unbaptized may know
God and the heretic see his errors, and that they and all sinners
may repent; that Christian captives be freed from their captivity,
the seafarer find safe port, the infirm return to health, the
souls in Purgatory find relief, and that this holy exercise spread
throughout Christendom so by this means we may praise God and
share His company in heaven. Amen.
(English translation from the original Spanish, E.M. Mulhare).
By These Holy Mysteries, long version
By these holy mysteries
which the soul remembers,
We ask of you, ¡O Mary!
With tender and devoted hearts
that our most holy faith
may be preserved and increase.
Turn your divine eyes
towards your Christian people,
give your Church victory,
and the world a welcome peace;
Calm the tempests
sent down by the angry heavens.
and mitigate the bitter pain
of the reverent Pontiff.
May the powers of the earth
follow God's precepts,
so that justice will return
and their efforts will lead to good.
May the unbaptized know God,
And the arrogant forsake his error,
setting aside heart and mind
for the sake of the truth.
That our faults may inspire
perfect and profound remorse,
That the sailor may find port
and the sick person regain health.
That the souls in Purgatory
may go joyfully to heaven;
and that this holy exercise
¡oh Mother! may increase
throughout the entire Christian world
so that the faithful will adore God's goodness,
that your glories will be
the object of continual praise
and that through you love we may merit
to enjoy the eternal prize. [Amen].
(English translation from the original Spanish, E.M. Mulhare).
