Photos 1-4 of family ofrendas.
Note the path of flower petals that leads from the street up to the altar. This is to insure that the souls of beloved dead can "find their way home."
Family Ofrendas
Almost ever Catholic home in Totimehuacán has an altar where the family displays the images of its favorite saints.
On November 1, the family places an "offering" (ofrenda) on the altar as a tribute to deceased loved ones. The basic ofrenda consists of bread, fruit, a glass of water, flowers, candles, and incense. Some families add other items, such as liquor and photographs of the deceased.
