Ofrendas exhibited in public spaces incorporate items no longer common in family ofrendas, such as banderitas (sheets of tissue paper cut-out in decorative patterns), clothes, and traditional housewares made of straw, clay and stone.
Public Spaces:
Exhibits and Contests
Various groups organize ofrenda exhibits and contests in Totimehuacán -- the town government, local schools, and civic associations. It was not possible to photograph all the exhibitions and contests held in 2002. The following pages present scenes from two events.
The public ofrenda shown at left includes an Adelita-style dress, the regional costume of the state of Jalisco. (Totimehuacán is located in the state of Puebla).
