The Franciscan friars began preaching in Totimehuacán
early in the colonial period, possibly in 1529, but they delayed
building the monastery conplex for several decades. |

Apparently the friars began construction in 1569.
As of 1585 they still had not finished roofing the cloister and
part of the church. |
